The meeting was being presided over by Pakistan’s Home Secretary Qamar Zaman Chaudhry. "Terrorism, social injustice, and crimes are the biggest challenge for Saarc countries,” he said.
Qamar Zaman Chaudhry also stated that Saarc had so far failed to take concrete steps to resolve major regional problems. The second round of Home Secretaries’ meeting will set the agenda for the Saarc Home Ministers’ meeting. — Dawn News

Pakistan has recently inked the ambitious project with Iran, scheduled to get operational by 2014, and will provide fuel to its electricity generation plants to help meet the huge energy shortfall. In his address to the parliamentarians Prime Minister Gilani said all state institutions need to work within their constitutional ambit for achieving the greater good, for serving the masses and in the larger interest of the country.

From Pakistani side, those who attended the meeting included Foreign Minister, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Finance Minster, Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Interior Minister, Rehman Malik and Chairman BISP, Farzana Raja. Matters relating to Pak-UK bilateral relations, Pakistan’s fight against militancy, terrorism and regional issues came under discussion during the meeting. Speaking to the British foreign secretary, the President said that Pak-UK multi-dimensional cooperation in various areas, especially in socio-economic realms is vital to create opportunities, development and promote peace and security of the region.
The President while referring to the change of government in the UK, felicitated him and his party for winning elections and expressed the hope that the new leadership would continue the UK’s close association with Pakistan in all areas of mutual interest.
The President said that the presence of around one million Pakistani-born diaspora in the UK serves as a bridge between the two countries. The President said that the government and the people of Pakistan appreciate Britain’s acknowledgment of Pakistan’s counter terrorism efforts and its contributions through funding and capacity building. The President said that Pakistan has suffered tremendously in the global fight against militancy and finds its economy greatly ravaged by the war against militancy and terrorism.
