Despite, rule of a democratic government, public have got least relief on grass root level in terms of resolution of their long standing problems. The situation was virutally better in the Musharraf reign and it is a shame that people of this area are still living deprived of electricity-a basic necessity of human beings in twenty firstcentury. The new millennium brought about a technological revolution across the world, and technology requires power which is scant here except to keep equipments for display. Our representitives ruled the Northern Areas Legislative Assembly , but, could not bring any scheme in this area to pacify the greivance in terms of establishment of an effective power generation unit to facilitate the unit.
The situation becomes even more vulnerable for pedestrians to pass by in an emergency due to lack of proper lighting during the night across the Hyderabad and Asha Herr as there is no facility of both lighting and a proper bridge to corss the nallah. Few people volunteerily installed a bulb above the Hyderabad nallah was later either stollen or broken by unknown persons immediately.
unfavourable conditions, the turbines went out of order with in few months. Now the population of Hunza has been increased drastically and so is the requirment of energy. While government, public representitives and especially the concern department has failed to address the issue according to contemporary requirement. Winter is started with freezing cold; confining public to their houses. Lack of forest or any other source has further intensified the situation as hide and seek of electricity is the routine of the day. Natural gas is not available consequently, public use LPG on unaffordable prices. On the other hand, petroleum products especaily Keroseine oil, which is an essential for household use in the region have sky rocketed. In such a situation, electricity is indespensible to bring some ease in the harder routine of the masses.Experts of the field suggest for a comprehensive project that could fulfil the demand. Mere establishment of another such power generating unit in the same place will hardly able to satisfy the requirement for the water has proved harmful to the turbine and cause rapid depreciation. This necessitates an alternate project at a feasible place. As a member of this region it can be expected that there are power shortages across the country, and Hunza can not be an exception. But there are some reservations of the inhabitants that need to be addressed on a priority basis and that is to ensure a proper mechanism of power supply using available fund for the purpose.
Therefore, the concerned authorities should take the matter seriously on realistic grounds. Furthermore, after discussing with the experts in the field, it can be suggested that government can either initiate a project in collaboration with the Chinese power authority at a feasible point on Hunza river to address the long run demand of population. This will not only reduce time consumption but also enhance the capacity of power generation. Secondly , as a second option we can suggest the installation of solar panels.
These solar panels, though costly during installation and definitely an initial investment, have proven to be a cost effective alternative to reduce power crises especially in summar in the region.
We hope that the concern power generation authorities will take remedial steps to resolve
the issue before it becomes worse. Lastly, we would suggest that newly elected representatives in upcoming elections treat all dwellers whether they fall in their favor or opponents living with in their continuencies equally to eliminate the feeling of injustice among the dwellers of other localities within the Hunza division. The concerned authorities should propose a new plan to address the issues on priority basis before it get worse in the years ahead.

Historical choronicles vindicates the notion that the region has been ruled by varous dynasties, mostly Tebetan origion since eleven century AD. From 1762 to 1937, they paid tribute to Xinjiang, but in all essentials were independent. For centuries Hunzukutz, the people of Hunza earned their livelihood by taxing the caravans along his branch of the Silk Route between Gilgit,Hunza and Kashgar. They were considered as the terror of the people between Afghanistan and Yarqand and used to make frequent raids, even robbed the caravans across Karakorum and Hidukush passes. Once they captured more than 50 ladden camels and 500 ponies. All the men and women taken in these raids were driven across the mountains and sold to Kirghiz or in Chinese Turkestan. For centuries, the tiny state was impregnable. Once Kashmiries tried to capture and sent aour 500 men with reinforcement. Hunzukutz outmanured them and captured about 202 of the Kashmiris and sold them as slaves to Kirghiz.
Hunza, similarly was considered more critical to the then imprerialst powers like British and Russia for many reasons. One of them was that Huzukutz controled many passes linking Russia, India, China, Afghanistan and other counteries thus blocking the way to intervention. When we see today's situation it is much more different than we hear from our forefathers. Thus a population known for valour, bravery and courage is turned to a breed of cowards that seems unable to voice for even its legitimate rights. The hapharzard fast rate of meterial development coupled with least mental enlightment with in few decades have served to change the values and attitudes of youth towards the new prevailed in todays world. Lesser is the unity greater is the capacity to get the rulers accept their demands fits for us.
Many thinkers are of opinion that the the imperialistic approach of nations are now transformed from territorial approach to economic indirect ventures through userpation of natural resources. Utilization of natural resources is not a bad concept but should be an instrumental to upgrade standard of living of a common masses. In Hunza, the sign of discard among few will soon fade away if we all keep in view one thing-that is public walfare.
Divided on linguistic lines seems to divide on territorial ones now. Many among us want to divide to fulfil both their own and some hidden elements' interest, in order to satisfy their evil doctrines try to deviate attention of masses from genuine issues to some thing unworthy.
