Anwar Mansoor resigns as Attorney General

ISLAMABAD, April,02: Attorney General of Pakistan Anwar Mansoor Khan has resigned from his office alleging Federal Law Minister of offering hindrances to his duties, report said here Friday. In his resignation sent to the Prime Minister office, Khan maintained that Law Minister and Ministry of Law are not cooperating with him, alleging them of neglecting their duties deliberately. “In view of the situation I found myself unable to perform my duties and resigning from the office under Article 100 of the constitution,” Khan was quoted as writing in his resignation letter. Khan hit the headlines yesterday when he blamed Law Minister Baber Awan for the snag behind attempts in completing legal procedures for sending letter to his counterpart in Switzerland for reopening of money-laundering case involving President Asif Ali Zardari. ISLAMABAD, Apr 2 (APP): Congratulating the nation on presentation of Constitutional Reforms package to the House, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani Friday urged every citizen to promote nationalism and contribute to nation building. “Let it be the time that we the Pakistanis say with pride every where in the world that we are proud to be Pakistanis,” he said addressing the National Assembly prior to presentation of the report of the Constitutional Committee to the House. “Today is a historic day. Today we have gathered here to mend the follies of the past. Today I feel pleasure to congratulate the Speaker, the Committee, the Parliamentarians and the whole nation,” he added. Recalling the time when the Speaker was requested to formulate a Committee to do away with the Constitutional amendments of the dictatorial regime, the Prime Minister said, nobody from outside will come to set our House in order. We committed follies and we are to address them.“I appreciate the Committee and the political parties to redress the acts of a dictator who had trampled down the Constitution. If a dictator wears many hats, the democratic set share power to govern,” he added. Gilani said, the Reforms will empower provinces and thus the people of Pakistan. It is not empowerment of myself or any other individual but empowerment of this House and the people.He said the representation of political parties in the Committee, the sagacity shown by the members and marathon exercise it dwelt upon, was unprecedented in country’s history.
“I also congratulate Raza Rabbani and his colleagues who burnt the midnight oil to mend the mistakes of the past in a legal and constitutional effort,” Gilani said. He said the Committee sent a message world over that Pakistani nation is a democratic nation and commitment of its leadership touches the highest pinnacle where they even do not hesitate to lay down their lives for the people as well as sovereignty of the country.“When Benazir Bhutto signed Charter of Democracy, she was well aware of the follies of the dictators and believed to redress these follies,” he said.He said the recommendations of the Committee will empower the provinces and when the institutions will be fully empowered, there will be good governance and political ownership.
Rabbani hands over reforms committee report to NA speaker

ISLAMABAD, April, 02: Senator Mian Raza Rabbani, chairman of the all parties Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms (PCCR) handed over the report of the committee to National Assembly (NA) Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza on Thursday. Receiving the report, the NA speaker congratulated Rabbani and members of the Parliamentary Committee on achieving this milestone. “The political leadership has proved that the parliament is supreme and parliamentarians can solve all problems faced by the nation with consensus and reconciliation”, she said. Mirza said it was an honour for her to take the report of the committee, as she had constituted the committee nine months ago and after detailed discussions, the report had been submitted to her. “March 31 is a historic day in the parliamentary history of the country as the committee completed its report after nine months of hard work and I would like to congratulate both its chairman and members”, National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza said. Earlier, Prime Minister (PM) Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani held a meeting with the members of the PCCR at his chamber in the Parliament House. Mashadi demands reduction of taxes on oil prices

ISLAMABAD, Apr 2 (APP): MQM Senator Tahir Hussain Mashadi Friday asked government to reduce taxes on oil prices in order to curtail the retail prices of petroleum products. On a point of order, Mashadi showed great concern over recent increase in petroleum prices and said currently government is charging Rs. 40 to 45 tax per litre on different petroleum products which must be cut to half. Mir Hasil Bazinjo raised concern over the alleged missing of son of their party leader and asked to take concrete steps for his recovery.
Meanwhile Talha Mehmood in his point of order highlighted the Pollen allergy problem in the federal capital. He was of the view that number of affectees of the pollen allergy in Islamabad has reached to hundreds of thousands and asked for serious steps by CDA. Professor Khursheed Ahmad maintained that under the State Bank Act, it is mandatory for the bank to present its report in both Houses of the parliament. Petrol prices increased by Rs 2.57 per litre

ISLAMABAD, April 01: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Wednesday raised prices of petroleum products with a substantial increase of Rs 2.57 per litre in petrol price with the price now being Rs 73.14, while the price of light diesel has been increased by Rs 2.73 per litre with the overall price now standing at Rs 62.20. Talking to reporters, OGRA Senior Executive Director Jawad Nasim said the new POL prices would be effective from April 1 (today). “Petrol prices have been increased by Rs 2.57 per litre, HOBC by Rs 1.50, light diesel oil by Rs 2.73 and the price of kerosene oil has been increased by Rs 3.31 per litre,” he added. According to the notification, the new price of petrol would be Rs 73.14 per litre, HOBC Rs 87.56 per litre, light diesel oil Rs 62.20 per litre and kerosene oil Rs 64.81 per litre. The authority said the prices had been revised owing to an increase in petroleum prices in the Gulf in March. According to a statement by OGRA, petrol prices have been increased by four percent as compared to the prices in March, while the price ofHigh Speed Diesel has been increased by five percent than last month, Dailytimes reports.
