The boat service gradually improved due to induction of new and speedy boats to facilitate moment of merchandise stranded at the banks of blocked river towards Gulmit village. The population of Ayeenabad and Nazimabad (Paeen), who lost most of the land property, has already been shifted to safer places with the rapid rise in the level of water. Currently, the rate of rising water level has been recoded about 1.4 feet per day. The vulnerable boats provided by NDMA, are still a matter of concern due to low capacity to carry large number of commuters on one hand and mail attitude of boat operators as well as their supervisors. It is commonly observed that boat operators of NDMA who were deployed to facilitate moment of masses now follow their own will rather then public necessity. Many people who wanted to sail to Nazimabad are being forced to dismount at Ayeenabad who are left with no option but to under take risk posed by rising waves at the junction of both affected settlement along submerging Karakoram high way, the only land route that used to connect many generation of two countries, Pak-China.
Despite of tall claims by government officials especially that of NDMA, the contemporary situation seems unsatisfactory for a common man. One of the reason behind it is slow pace of debris removal work to paw a spill way for drainage of blocked water on Hunza river on one hand and ill behavior of boat operators towards commuters. The pace of work, interestingly, have had suddenly expedite during scheduled visit of high-ups but gets slow later as one out of three excavators manage to remove debris, while authorities were being convinced that all is going well.
We through this medium would like to urge government authorities to pay proper attention towards reduction of feelings of embracement among the public by the hands of boat operators and direct them to change rude behavior to earn the hearts instead of hatred, for love begets love.
