Torrential rains had washed away Karakorum High Way (KKH) along with numerous bridges at various places and the region remained disconnected for around a month. Contrary to ground realities, regional government few weeks earlier had claimed that they have stored ration for more than six months. Yet, the situation became worse couple of days earlier when rumors of lack of cooperation at the hand of food supply department Gilgit floated in air in Hunza-Nagar district. Reliable sources also confirmed that deputy director Rashid, who pertains to Astore district following transfer of former director Supply deliberately tried to deprive Hunza-Nagar district from its reserved quota following his appointment in the said department. A delegation of youth called by Chief Minister and other officials who have assured to provide certain quantity of subsidized floor that were kept in pending for several months. Hunza-Nagar is a nascent district which still lack proper departmentalization. Lack of attention of regional (GB) government has led to dead lock over the allocation of site for district head quarter.
PPP's contemporary regime has been an honor for providing subsidised wheat to facilitate indeginous poor population since inception in centre. Yet, continous silence over suspension and obstacles created by some officials in food supply department is a matter to ponder over. There are continuous reports that some of the officials from some of the other districts of Gilgit-Baltistan were explicitly patronizing hatred and working against the interest of Hunza-Nagar district in general and the residents of Hunza region particular and that may retaliate the farmer in future if such tendencies come to surface and enough to harm regional solidarity. Dumping and induction of non local less qualified people have been inducting since the day the set up introduced to reduce administrative burden over the civil administration. None of government department is reportedly dispensing duties: unscheduled load shedding are irking population on pretext of reduction in flow of water in Hasanabad nallah; roads are still in vulnerable condition; doctors and medicines are scant in government run hospitals, travels charges, and prices of general commodities have been reportedly increased by 46 percent with one and half month leaving majority of population in perplexity.
Nothing is more painful than a situation when residents of country loss any hope of future. We would
like insist Giglit-Baltistan government to ensure provision of subsidized floor including Hunza-Nagar district to alleviate sufferings of common man.
