In an email, Mr. Javed Ahmed, the father of missing boy appealed the youth, civil society members and media sources to help find his beloved son."We are appealing to all our Brothers & Sisters to find our beloved Son Mr. Shoaib Hassan of 17 years, who has been missing from Rawalpindi Sadiqabad by Friday, January 8, 2010 on 6:00 PM," the email reads.We through this medium, request those all who read this for their cooperation in search of missing boy to prove a responsible citizen of the country in general and social worker of the region in particular to share the grief of concerned family.
People of Gojal demand urgent action for releasing water from disaster lake

GILGIT, January 19:(PT) People of Gojal living in Gilgit city have criticized the government for delaying work on releasing water from the lake formed on Hunza river.Addressing a press conference at a local hotel here in Gilgit the speakers said that the government is only offering lip service to the people of Ayeen Abad, Shishkat and Gulmit, the three villages endangered by the fast expanding lake.“More than eight thousand people living in these three villages, their houses, field and property are under immediate threat due to the increasing water level but the government is yet to come up with a strategy to release water from the lake”, said a speaker. The lake formation had started on January 4, 2010, after a devastating landslide.“It is unfortunate that our representatives are silent about their future strategy or just giving vague statements about the lake’s fate”, another speaker said.Pamirtimes.net
DC orders immediate re-opening of Khujrab border

HUNZA, Jan.20: (Sahib Khan Hunzai) According to a media source, Zafar Waqar Taj, deputy commissioner Hunza-Nagar has ordered for immediate re-opening of Khujrab border to facilitate local community to avoid human crisis. This was announced during a press briefing at Karimabad in presence of Assistant commissioner Hunza Engineer Abbas and other officials. He said that Pakistan Army will make efforts on release of water and is expected to be accomplished with in a week keeping in view study reports by some organizations. According to the experts the hight of rubble is about 290 feet high from the river level.
Four die as the vehicle plunged into a goarge; a man, wife and two children among dead

Jan. 20: (Rehmat Karim) At least four people have been reported died in a road mishape near Dasu on Karakorum High Way (KKH), on Tuesday. According to NATCO sources, a Baltistan bound vehicle coming from Skardu to Rawalpindi lost its way and fell into a horrible goarge leaving four dead on spot. Locals shifted bodies where doctors confirmed their death. The victims have been identified as Ghulam Nabi, former member Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly, his wife and two children.

US to mediate between India and Pakistan

GILGIT, Jan.17:(Esar Karim) Mian Manzoor Ahmed Watoo, federal minister for Kashmir affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan has said that it was success of diplomacy of rulling party that United States for the first time agreed to mediate between India and Pakistan over long standing dispute of Jamu and Kashmir. Addressing to a press conference he said that issue of Kashmir would be solved according to the resolutions of United Nations and on general plebisite. Talking about affectees of Attaabad, Sarat and Aeenabad village, he said that they are given option of either opt for permanent rehabilitation or cash compensation adding the victims would be accommodated if they wanted to shift for new houses. "Arrangments to evacuate about 350 families to safer places have been already made", he added. He paid his tribute to the local communities for their contribution in the rescue work operations. Talking to media persons mr. Wotoo said, "more than 22000 people in uper hunza were cut off from the rest of the region adding efforts are being made by engineers of FWO, WAPDA, NHA and China to release water blockade and restore Karakorum High Way". He expressed his grief over loss of human lives and property and ensure to extend optimum possible support to affectees of disaster hit areas.

Violence in educational institutions takes a life; body found near a government college Karachi

KARACHI, Jan.16: (Mujahid Hussain) A youth was found shot dead in the premises of a residential apartment following an armed clash between two student groups in a government college near University of Karachi. According to our correspondant, clash occurred between All Pakistan Muttahida Student Organization and Pakhtoon Student Federation out side government degree college Gulistan-e-Johar in the mourning on Wednesday, caused block university road for an hour. An hour later police was informed about a dead body lying inside Sheriton Square, near the college. The body was first taken to Sohrab Goth where his relatives identified victim as Shakil Abbas son of Muhammad Shifa, resident of Chisti Nagar, Hazara Goth, block 14, Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi. The family of deceased was shifted from Barmass village, Gilgit and settled in Karachi, a few years back. Situation became complex when it was found that he was enrolled in the same college and motive behind the killing, as he did not affiliate with any of the group.According to Zahid Soomro, SHO Mubina Town police station, the victim does not have neither any criminal record nor has affiliation with any political organization. Police investigating the case and hope to reach the reason behind the murder.
