GHQ operation completed with the arrest of injured terrorists’ top dog'
Thirty one rescued, three hostages, two commandos and four militants killed

RAWALPINDI, Oct.11: Pak Army commandos, while arresting the wounded top dog of the terrorist attackers, Aqeel alias Dr. Usman winded up its operation at the General Headquarters here, while five more hostages were recovered and two commandos of the Pak Army martyred in the process. According to details provided by Al-Jazeera, an international news channel, security forces stormed an army headquarters in Rawalpindi, freeing 25 hostages held there by suspected Taliban fighters, according to the military. Pak Army spokesman, Major General Athar Abbas told that the commandos have completed the search operation at the security building in GHQ with the arrest of the last holed up terrorist, who in his last ditch effort trying to blow up the explosives that he carried injured himself besides some of the security personnel.
The operation for the rescue of hostages taken on Saturday noon was started this morning at 6.00 A.M and SSG commandos with their great expertise successfully completed the operation in merely one hour and, thereafter, a search operation had started.D.G. ISPR, Major General Athar Abbas told Geo News that 25 hostages were safely freed, while three hostages were martyred by the terrorists’ firing and four terrorists were killed during the operation. The terrorists had taken hostage of 22 security men in a room, where one suicide bomber was guarding them. The commandos on the intelligence information were tasked to eliminate this suicide bomber in its initial raid in a bid to rescue the hostages safely, which was successfully completed, but in this process three hostages were martyred by terrorists’ firings.Sources said that the terrorists occupying the building had planted explosives at four places in order to blow it up if anyone tried to enter into the building, but the commandos did enter into the building in blitzing raid with great expertise and took action against the terrorists. According to reports of various pirvate news channels an unidentified spokesman of the group via telephone has claimed that this is a warning to halt operation in FATA, trial of ex-president Pervez Musharraf and closure of all western backed NGOs.

Rawalpindi, Oct. 10:Armed men wearing army uniforms have attacked the Pakistani army's headquarters (GHQ) in the garrison city of Rawalpindi close to the capital, Islamabad. Four gunmen and six soldiers were killed in the fierce gun battle that followed and while the soldiers continued efforts late into night for safe release of those held hostage by two of the attackers.
ISPR said the martyred military men included a brigadier and a lieutenant colonel. Militants who earlier attacked military HQ took security personnel hostage, reports say.The military first said the situation was under control, but two militants were later reported to have escaped. The attack comes as the army prepares a major operation against the Taliban. "They are holding some of our soldiers," said an official told Reuters news agency. "It's a hostage situation. They're demanding the release of some of their fellows," another official said. Officials said gunmen drove up to the army compound in a white van just before midday local time (0600 GMT). They took up positions, fired on the compound and threw hand grenades, security officials said. Roads to the area were sealed off and helicopters hovered over the compound. According to the news bulletin of an international news channel, terrorists in army uniform attempted to enter GHQ at 11:30 am on Saturday from Gate No 1. When stopped by security officials, they reached at Check post No 1 and opened fire on security men after taking positions after leaving the car. The commandos seized the bodies of terrorists and shifted them. ISPR DG Athar Abbas confirmed martyrdom of security officials in the incident. He said four terrorists were killed. Search operation is underway in the area to nab the two terrorists at large. All roads leading to GHQ have been sealed after the incident.
Online reported quoting ISPR as saying the martyred officials included a brigadier and a lieutenant colonel. Sources told that about 11 terrorists wearing military uniform attacked the army HQs out of which 4 were killed and 4 has been arrested while 3 are still at large. Interior Minister Rehman Malik said the ongoing assaults strengthened the government's resolve to launch the offensive. "We have been left no other option except to go ahead to face them", he said. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kiara have condemned the attack at GHQ in Rawalpindi.
